Matteo Thun

Matteo Thun, architect and designer, was born in Bolzano in 1952. He studied at the Salzburg Academy with Oskar Kokoscka and also at the University of Florence. After meeting with Ettore Sottsass, he became co-founder of the ‘Memphis’ group in Milan, and partner at Sottsass Associati from 1980 to 1984. From 1983 to 2000 he was Design Professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and from 1990 to 1993, Art Director for Swatch. In 1984 he founded the Matteo Thun & Partners firm in Milan, which currently has a team of 50 professionals: architects, interior designers and product designers, and was joined by Antonio Rodriguez in 2000. During his lengthy career, Matteo Thun has been given many awards, including the “Compasso d’Oro”, which he has won three times, one of which in 2011 with TVS and the Terra line. Matteo Thun’s work with TVS has led to the creation of two award-winning lines. The first is Archetun, winner of the Design Plus award in 2006 and the Design Price Gold and ADI Design Index in 2007. Thun has gone on to design the Terra line, which won the Wallpaper Award and the ADI Design Index in 2010, and in 2011, the Honourable Mention by “The Compasso d’Oro”.
