Karim Rashid

Born in Cairo in 1960, from an Egyptian father and English mother, he graduated in Industrial Design from Carleton University, Ottawa in Canada in 1982 before going on to complete his post-graduate studies in Italy. He currently lives in New York, where he has started his own firm, which has already created over 2000 designs and models. The work ranges from fashion to furniture, lighting, art and music for installations. He is now also a successful architect and interior designer, working for the Morimoto restaurant in Philadelphia and the Hotel Semiramis in Athens. In Italy, he designed the interiors for the Università station of Line 1 of the Naples Metropolitan railway, a unique example in Italy of art and urban mobility. His work can be found in the permanent collections of fourteen different museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco. Rashid has been an associate professor of Industrial Design for 10 years and now is an active guest lecturer at universities and conferences all over the world. His HOOK line, created for TVS, was presented with the Good Design Award nel 2013.
