What is PTFE?

PTFE, the acronym for Polytetrafluoroethylene, is used in the manufacture of household items on account of its high-performing non-stick qualities.  These non-stick qualities are the result of a low friction coefficient.  The maximum use temperature for contact with foods is 260° C.
